Home Wi-Fi & Network Installation in Houston, TX
Enterprise-grade networks engineered for large homes. Full coverage, no dead spots, no daily reboots Request a Free Wi-Fi Site Survey — (281) 999-4443The Foundation Every Smart Home Is Built On
J&K Electronics designs, installs and supports enterprise-grade home networks across Greater Houston. A modern luxury home runs dozens of connected devices at once: Streaming video, security cameras, lighting control, thermostats, voice assistants and work-from-home video calls, and a single retail router was never built to carry that load. We replace it with a properly engineered system: a structured wiring backbone, professionally placed Wi-Fi access points, managed switching and network security, designed around your home’s actual floor plan and construction.
As a CEDIA member and HTA Luxury-Level Certified integrator working with Access Networks, we build networks for homes in Houston, Katy, The Woodlands, Sugar Land, Spring, Conroe and Humble. Networking is the quiet foundation beneath every other system we install, and the reason our automation, security and audio-video systems respond instantly, every time.
Why the Router From Your Internet Provider Isn't Enough
Most large Houston homes have the same problem: strong signal in one room, unusable signal three rooms away. The cause is rarely the internet service. It’s that a single router in a utility closet is being asked to cover several thousand square feet through brick, stucco, foil-backed insulation, tile and low-E glass — all of which absorb or reflect Wi-Fi.
Adding retail extenders usually makes it worse. Each one halves available bandwidth, creates a second network your devices cling to after you’ve walked away from it, and adds another point of failure. The fix is not a stronger router. It’s a network designed the way commercial buildings are designed:
- Hardwired access points placed by coverage, not by convenience — each one fed by its own Cat6 run back to a central rack.
- A managed switch and structured wiring backbone so cameras, control systems and streaming don’t compete for the same lane.
- Separate networks for family devices, guests, work and IoT equipment, so a compromised doorbell camera can’t reach your laptop.
Connected Home
Envision a System in Which All Your Technology Communicates Effortlessly
When your network is designed as infrastructure rather than an afterthought, everything built on top of it behaves. Lighting scenes fire instantly, cameras record without dropping frames, music follows you room to room, and your automation platform stays reachable from anywhere in the world. We design the network first, then build the smart home on it — which is why our systems keep working long after the installation crew has left.
- Unifies smart home control, audio-video, security and climate on one dependable backbone
- Designed to carry the systems you’ll add in five years, not just the ones you own today
- One interface for the whole home, on any device, from anywhere
Network Security & Monitoring
Protecting the Devices That Now Watch Your Home
We run Cat6 and fiber to every location that needs it and terminate it in a properly ventilated, labelled central rack — the difference between a system a technician can service in ten minutes and one that takes a morning to diagnose. Managed switches with PoE power your access points and cameras over the same cable that carries their data, and traffic is prioritized so a 4K stream never interrupts a security recording or a video call.
- Cat6 and fiber backbone built for today’s bandwidth and tomorrow’s
- Managed switching with PoE for access points, cameras and intercoms
- Wired connections for anything stationary; engineered Wi-Fi for everything else
- Clean, documented, labelled rack — serviceable for the life of the home
Network Security & Monitoring
Protecting the Devices That Now Watch Your Home
A smart home adds dozens of internet-connected devices to your property, and most of them were built for convenience rather than security. We segment the network so guests, IoT devices, cameras and family computers live on separate VLANs, protect the perimeter with a proper firewall, and monitor the system remotely so faults are caught early. If something does go down, intelligent power management lets us reboot equipment remotely instead of scheduling a truck.
- Firewall protection, VPN access and encryption standard on every installation
- Separate networks for family, guests, work and IoT devices
- 24/7 remote monitoring and diagnostics with proactive alerts
- Remote reboot through intelligent power management — most issues resolved without a site visit
Intercom Systems
Reach Anyone in the House, or at the Gate, Instantly
In a large home, an intercom is more practical than a phone. Flush-mounted touchscreens connect room to room, answer the door or gate from wherever you are, and broadcast to the entire house at once in an emergency. Because the intercom runs on the same network as your automation and cameras, answering the door also shows you who’s standing at it.
- Room-to-room and door-to-room communication from wall panels or your phone
- Whole-house announcements for emergencies or simply calling everyone to dinner
- Flush-mounted hardware finished to disappear into the architecture
Cell Booster Systems
Full Bars in Every Corner of the Property
The same construction that blocks Wi-Fi blocks cellular signal and in parts of Houston, so does distance from the tower. A cellular booster captures the signal outside, amplifies it and redistributes it through the home, including the garage, the media room and the far end of the property. It runs independently of your Wi-Fi, so calls and mobile data don’t compete with streaming and cameras for bandwidth.
- Consistent voice and data coverage across the whole property
- Works with all major carriers and every iPhone, Android and tablet in the house
- Independent of your home network — no added load on Wi-Fi
Voice Control
A Home That Responds to How You Actually Speak
Voice control is only as good as the network behind it. With Josh.ai, Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant integrated into your automation platform, you can dim the lights, close the shades, set the temperature and start a movie with one natural sentence rather than a memorized command. Josh.ai in particular is built for luxury homes and designed around privacy, keeping processing local rather than sending everything to the cloud.
- Natural, conversational commands that chain multiple actions together
- Josh.ai, Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant integration
- Privacy-conscious options for households that want voice without an always-listening cloud service
What Does a Whole-Home Network Cost in Houston?
Plan Your Project Budget
Home networks are priced by coverage and complexity, the size and construction of the home, how many access points it needs, how much new wiring is required, and whether we're working in an existing home or before drywall. A focused upgrade for a home with a few dead spots is a modest investment. A full structured-wiring and network build for a large home, with managed switching, segmented networks and monitoring, is a larger one.
Retrofitting an existing home costs more than wiring during construction, which is the single best reason to bring an integrator in early. Use the calculator below for a working estimate, or call us for a free site survey and a firm written proposal.
Home Networking Across Greater Houston
We install and service home networks from our offices in Houston and Spring, covering Katy, The Woodlands, Sugar Land, Spring, Conroe, Humble and neighbourhoods inside the Loop. Large homes in master-planned communities and older homes with solid construction present different challenges, and we survey each one before specifying anything.
Home Networking Questions
Do I need to upgrade my Wi-Fi for a smart home to work reliably?
Almost always, yes. The network is the foundation every smart home is built on, and builder-grade or retail routers rarely keep up with dozens of connected devices, 4K streaming and security cameras running at once.
Why is my Wi-Fi slow in parts of my house?
Usually because one router is covering too much area through materials that block signal, brick, stucco, foil-backed insulation, tile and low-E glass all absorb or reflect Wi-Fi. The fix is multiple hardwired access points placed by coverage rather than a single stronger router.
Will a mesh system solve my coverage problem?
Sometimes, in a smaller home. In a large home, wireless mesh nodes relay traffic to each other and lose roughly half their available bandwidth at each hop. Hardwired access points, each fed by its own Cat6 run, deliver full speed everywhere instead.
